BREAKING Heavy Israeli bombardment of Gaza City killed 71 Palestinians on Saturday. UNRWA, the UN agency for Palestinian refugees, is warning that Israel's bombing and planned seizure of the city could displace yet again one million Palestinians.

BREAKING Israel launched an airstrike on Sanaa that killed Ahmed al-Rahawi, prime minister of Yemen’s Houthi-controlled government, and several ministers during a routine workshop. The Israeli military confirmed striking a Houthi military target; al-Rahawi, appointed in August 2024, is the highest-ranking official killed in the escalation.

Ukrainian lawmaker Andriy Parubiy was shot dead in Lviv, prompting a nationwide murder investigation. Meanwhile, a massive Russian strike on Zaporizhzhia killed one civilian and injured dozens—including children—damaging infrastructure and cutting power to 25,000. Ukraine surged in retaliation with drone strikes on Russian oil refineries.

In the early hours of Saturday, Russia launched a massive attack on the Ukrainian cities of Dnipro and Pavlograd in the central Dnipropetrovsk region.

EU foreign ministers, meeting in Copenhagen, remain deeply divided over how to respond to Israel’s military campaign in Gaza. Nations like Ireland, Spain, Sweden, and the Netherlands back stronger measures—including research and trade restrictions—while Germany, Hungary, and the Czech Republic resist. The lack of consensus weakens the EU’s unified global voice.

Donald Trump has revoked the Secret Service detail for former U.S. Vice-President Kamala Harris. Under federal law, former vice-presidents are entitled to receive protection for six months after leaving office.

A federal appeals court in the U.S. has ruled that most of Donald Trump's tariffs are illegal, calling them "invalid as contrary to law." The court gave the administration until 14 October to appeal to the Supreme Court, which is likely.

BREAKING In advance of the United Nations General Assembly meeting in September, and in clear violation of the UN “headquarters agreement,” the U.S. has begun denying visas to members of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) and the Palestinian Authority (PA). Included was Mahmoud Abbas, president of the Palestinian Authority, who is scheduled to deliver an address. Aligning itself firmly with Israel's Netanyahu, the Trump administration openly expressed displeasure with “efforts to secure the unilateral recognition of a conjectural Palestinian state.”

A boat carrying 160 migrants capsized off the coast of Mauritania on Tuesday, killing 69 of those aboard.

Britain’s Court of Appeal overturned a High Court injunction that would have forced 138 asylum-seekers to leave the Bell Hotel in Epping by September 12, allowing the government to continue using it for accommodation. Judges warned that upholding the injunction could inspire further disorderly protests.

The UK summoned Russia’s ambassador after a Russian missile and drone attack on Kyiv killed at least 23 people, including four children, and severely damaged the British Council and EU offices. Foreign Secretary David Lammy condemned the strikes as deliberate and destructive, urging an end to the violence.

Protests flared in Jakarta after ride-share driver Affan Kurniawan was killed by a police vehicle during a rally over living costs and lawmakers’ perks (Al Jazeera). Students and drivers clashed with riot police, as President Prabowo urged calm and pledged accountability.

Thailand's Constitutional Court has removed Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra from office because of a leaked phone call she had with Cambodian Senate President Hun Sen, which the court ruled violated ethics and led to "a loss of trust."

An extraordinary meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Council of Foreign Ministers was held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on Monday to discuss Israel's actions in Gaza, with the aim of coordinating member states’ responses. Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan chaired the meeting, as Türkiye currently holds the rotating presidency of the OIC. Discussions continue in Turkey's parliament.

The Sudanese Rapid Support Forces paramilitary have shelled densely populated areas in the city of el-Fasher in Sudan’s western Darfur region, killing at least 24 and wounding 55.
